Professor Emeritus Uzi de-Haan

 
 
General Information

Prof. Uzi de Haan first degree at the University of Delft, Holland, was in aeronautical engineering. M.Sc. and D.Sc. at the Technion were in industrial engineering and behavioral sciences in area of Socio-Technical Systems, job design and quality of working life. After a post doctorate at UCLA, prof. De Haan joined Philips Electronics, in the Netherlands, first as organizational consultant and later in a number of line and staff functions in different product divisions and countries. Such as director of a plant for Telecom cables, Business Development Manager in Japan, Purchasing Director of Consumer Electronics, Chief Operating Officer of the Telecommunication Division, and lastly CEO of Philips in Israel. In his last function he build a $ 350 mln company and a R&D base through acquisitions, venture investments and organic growth.

Prof. Uzi de Haan rejoined the Technion in 2003 as professor at the faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management, with as main interest Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management. Prof. De Haan is member of the Technion patent committee and member of the advisory council of the Neaman Institute and founder of the Technion Entrepreneurship Center.

 
 
Research Summary

Entrepreneurship and Strategic management are the main research areas.

Entrepreneurship is a relatively new and multidisciplinary research area which is particular relevant in the Israeli economic environment and the role the Technion plays therein. Areas of interest are : early stages of entrepreneurship and commercialization of Intellectual property of universities; decision making in entrepreneurial firms, moving from opportunistic to strategic decision making; management transitions during starting up new ventures. Main interest is in applied research.
